Vastly different artworks explore the meaning of ‘HOME’.
Is it a sense of place and identity that explains ‘home’, or perhaps it’s more about the lack of a place to go and how that impacts who you are? Jumping Ant Arts members reveal their interpretation of the word ‘home’ in their annual exhibition at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery during May.
When you think about HOME – feelings are involved. The sight of your comfy shoes at the bottom of the stairs may prepare you to relax. The pleasure of taking the weight off your feet when you sit in a favourite chair or the act of watering plants on the patio may give you a sense of home and belonging. The phrase ‘Home is where the heart is,’ may come to mind, however, there is so much more to consider when exploring a sense of ‘home’ as you’ll see when visiting this exhibition.
While the phrase ‘a picture paints a thousand words’, the word HOME prompted JAA members to offer these words for HOME – Peace, Place, Identity, Acceptance, Belonging, Connections, Landscape, Spirit, Sanctuary. Home may be where we can connect with our surroundings and with others and with nature. While the home may be a physical place, the landscape around a building may be more of a spiritual home, and simply sharing time, conversation and meal may make someone feel at home.
This exhibition gives you the opportunity to explore what ‘home’ means to you. You may leave with a greater appreciation of your home or a desire to help those with less. JAA will be fundraising during May to support a local charity, South Burnett Support Alliance, that supports those in need.
The HOME exhibition will be on display in the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery from Thursday 1st May until Thursday 29th May with the official opening on Friday 9th May 5pm until 7pm.
To encourage arts in the South Burnett JAA is also hosting some ‘Make and Take’ sessions throughout the month. Cost $5 payable at time of booking. These sessions are always popular, so bookings are essential to secure your place.
