Dates of Exhibition

May 3rd – 25th, 2024

The Kingaroy Art Gallery is thrilled to present the captivating works of award-winning artist Jane Ericksen in her upcoming May exhibition. As the overall winner of the prestigious David Bryce Award for 2024, Jane brings a unique perspective to the world of 2D art, seamlessly blending oils, acrylics, and inks to craft pieces that invite viewers to delve deeper into the mysteries of human experience and the natural world.

Drawing inspiration from her extensive travels across diverse landscapes and cultures, Jane’s artistic journey is a testament to her unwavering commitment to exploration and discovery. Through her keen interrogation of various mediums and materials, she pushes the boundaries of traditional techniques, producing artworks that exude both depth and emotion.

In this exhibition, Jane invites you to join her on a visual odyssey through the Burnett region and beyond as she delves into the enigmatic allure of remote landscapes and the profound connections forged between individuals and their surroundings. Each piece serves as a reflection of Jane’s quest to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and ultimately, deepen the mystery that lies at the heart of every scene.

Artist Statement
My artwork is an investigation of a scene or subject which typically encompasses the human figure or a landscape using oils, acrylics, and inks. I have a strong connection to people and remote landscapes, encompassing minimalist concepts such as wide expanses of sea or outback, wanting to answer my perception of space, colour and contrast. This inspires me to create, and ‘deepen the mystery ’(my key driver).

I strive to create pieces that have a strong connection with the viewer, ideally with them reflecting on their own experiences, connecting with the subject and evoking emotions, seeking more information from the piece.

I also create my art to find mystery in a subject/scene, challenging my process each time and evolving it continually to find something unexpected. Sometimes it can be a struggle, but during these times, can produce the best outcome.

This exhibition encompasses subjects from the Burnett region together with national and international locations and people. I am challenging my process and practice and connecting with the local landscape, people, and scenes from the township.

I will be in residency for a week in the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery where I will continue to work on new pieces and connect with gallery visitors.
Tuesday 21st May -Saturday 25th May.
